All About Spelling

As many of you know, I’ve been searching for and trying out new curriculum the past few months.  As we’ve progressed through our second year of homeschooling, I’ve quickly realized what many veteran homeschoolers already know:  rarely does a “one size fits all” curriculum actually work for any one child.

I absolutely love K12 for many reasons, but found the spelling curriculum to be extremely lacking.  Sure, Babydoll was taught how to spell words, but that was about it.  It was a very stale public school-esque here’s a list, do a couple of activities to memorize the words, then take a test on the words.  Babydoll was knocking out test after test, but she wasn’t learning any of the spelling rules.  I felt it wasn’t complete enough for us.

I did research and stumbled upon All About Spelling.  I bought the first level so we could start from the beginning.  Sure, the words are very easy for Babydoll, but the spelling rules, phonograms, and other info are all new to her.  She’s progressing quickly and thoroughly enjoying the program.  She begged to do nothing but AAS for days!

The program incorporates letter tiles and various cards to teach the material.  It really helps the material stick in Babydoll’s head.

I hope to have a review up soon, but in the meantime I wanted to let you know that I loved the program so much that I became an affiliate.  If you’d like, feel free to check out the program at the following link:  All About Spelling.

You can also check out The ChatterBee, where you can get information on any of the All About Spelling and All About Reading products or on teaching language arts in general.  Just click the icon to the left!
