Another one of my sponsors for Blog Bash 2011 is:

Earn My Keep

Earn My Keep is the brainchild of Alisa Weinstein.  The first offering from Alisa is Earn It, Learn It, a book about one of the coolest allowance programs I’ve ever heard of.

Earn It, Learn It is full of 50 careers your child can pick from.  So, say Babydoll picked “archaeologist.”  She would choose one of several kid-friendly tasks listed in the archaeologist section of the book, complete it within a given amount of time, and once her work is “approved,” she’s paid.  I don’t want to give too much away as I’ve got a review of the book coming next month!

I’m all for anything that teaches kids how the real world works.  And in the real world, if you want something, you’ve got to work to get it.

But you know what I’m really in love with? The kits on this page!!!  I’m a sucker for cool kids’ stuff, especially anything that comes with a chef’s hat.  I can’t wait to get my hands on these!

Sweet Sponsor – Picture Me Cooking

Picture Me Cooking

Picture Me CookingI’d like to introduce one of my sponsors for Blog Bash 2011:

Picture Me Cooking

Picture Me Cooking is an awesome cookbook that contains 54 great kid-friendly recipes along with a sleeve to hold a photograph of you and your little cook.  The book also contains a section for family members to record family recipes, fun facts sprinkled throughout, and a kid-friendly measuring chart.

Picture Me Cooking

I think this is such a great way to create a keepsake for your child.  They’ll always have their own cookbook and can look back at all the fun times you cooked together.

Picture Me Cooking also has a great blog where delicious and fun recipes are featured, as well as their Junior Chef Spotlight series {Babydoll was a Junior Chef!}.  I love this post about growing a pizza garden!

Would you like to win a cookbook?

Picture Me Cooking has graciously donated two (2) cookbooks for my Blog Bash 2011 giveaway package!

Be sure to come back June 22nd to enter to win!

While you’re waiting, why don’t you go show them some sweet love over on Facebook and Twitter?

Guest Post – Michelle’s Charm World

I’m so excited to have Michelle from Michelle’s Charm World here guest posting today!  Michelle is just about bursting with fun things to do with your kids!  Seriously, this woman has tons of posts with all sorts of fun stuff.  Enjoy her post on summer journal writing below…

Hi everyone!! I’m so excited to be guest hosting today here at Sweet Phenomena! I was thrilled when I was approached to join you here, that I almost couldn’t think of what to write! (ALMOST!). I’m Michelle of MichellesCharmWorld and I am a stay at home mother of 3 wonderful kids and wife to an incredibly patient and amazing man! (Somehow, Creative Chaos doesn’t quite describe the whirlwind of our life!!). I overuse exclamation points and when I write LOL, I am most definitely laughing out loud! My kids are my life right now, because soon the day will come when they will choose friends and sports and extracurriculars over spending time with crazy mom, so for now I will do everything I can to make amazing memories that we document in every way possible. Now, let’s get going!
Summer is here and how quickly the learning wants to be tossed aside! I just can’t handle it! I love to play as much as the next kid, but we can’t just take a brain break. As you have read before, I like to make learning fun and think of different ways to incorporate a lesson into our daily activities so that they are learning without even knowing it! I knew I wanted the kids to keep a Summer Journal (like we did for Spring Break), so that they could document all the fun we are having!! I love having little Writing Centers everywhere, so that the kids can draw or write whenever the mood hits them or whenever they see new supplies hit the main table! I love trays, as they make everything portable for little hands and allow me to change things out with various buckets and bins!
Fun writing utensils ALWAYS draw the little ones in and make them want to write and draw, so I picked up some carpenter pencils at the home improvement stores and they were like little magnets!! I also googled writing prompts and found so many too choose from, but my favorite was a calendar with a different prompt for every day! I took that one and then changed out some days to fit our activities and went from there! Writing prompts help when we are lacking ideas on how to get started!
For my youngest one, he just draws his interpretation of what the answer to the prompt would be. We all get to spend some wonderful time together every single day and the best part is that everyone always has a different interpretation of the prompt and the kids always seem to have so much fun looking at each others drawings and writings. So far it’s working for us and we are building up our dictionary too!

How to BlogToday’s Task:  Set Up Alerts to Monitor What is Happening in Your Niche

Google allows you to set up Google Alerts so you can have emails sent to you that show links to information containing your alert terms.

I’ve done this before, and have alerts set up for:

  • homeschool
  • Sweet Phenomena
  • secular homeschooling

I might add some such as “homeschool curriculum,” “homeschool resources,” and “help with homeschooling.”

How to BlogToday’s Task:  Join A Forum and Start Participating

Today we were supposed to join a forum and start participating.  This isn’t a favorite task of mine since I’m not a fan of “putting myself out there” in cyber space.  I feel like I’m invading someone’s house or something…

I tried to join the forum at Secular Homeschool, but it kept giving me database errors.

So, for now, I’ve got the SITS forum that I will try to be more active on.
