- The 3rd Monday of each month: link up your “Kid friendly summer recipes”
- The 4th Monday of each month: link up your “How to stay cool in the summer heat”
One way we like to stay cool in the summer heat is to make ice cream in a bag!
There are several ways to do this, many of which don’t involve a bag, but I found a site with directions on making ice cream in a bag. I figured it looked easier and cleaner than making “real” ice cream.
We followed the directions and what do you know-we had ice cream! It wasn’t Ben & Jerry’s, but it was still good and cold, quite refreshing. I’m thinking that’s due in part to the use of half and half and not straight up cream.
Next time I think we’ll add vanilla bean paste instead of extract and I’ll look into the logistics of using cream instead.
Words of caution:
a) make this outside – our bags started to break a bit from all the shaking and salt; I had salt water everywhere
b) this is a workout…
What ways do you stay cool in the summer heat?

My daughters have asked to make ice cream like this during the summer. I think they’d have a lot of fun making (and eating) the ice cream!
It really was so much fun; I’m glad we did. Hope you guys get to try it!
Hi! I am a new follower from the Fun in the Summer Sun link-up. I also subscribed to your feed.
I have never tried to make ice cream the way you did. I might just have to try it! I have 2 boys who could use an extra workout!
Thanks for stopping by! Oh man, this will tire them right out!
Making ice cream sounds like fun. I am hoping we can have some fun since most of the summer has been used up seeing my MIL in the hospital. My fifteen year old has been complaining that her summer has been ruined. Ahhh, teenagers…
I hope you guys get to relax and rejuvenate a bit. Somehow kids always miss the big picture…
