Day 2

I feel pretty good about today!  Unfortunately, I didn’t get around to my Suzanne workout, but I did take the dog for a 30 minute walk and managed to get in a round of hoe downs.  Eating was much better, albeit not stellar.  I did also do several minutes worth of thigh exercises from yesterday’s workout; those are killer…

I just started my period, though, and feel like crap, so I think all-in-all, I’m happy with my progress.  More activity than normal and better food than normal.  Here’s to small victories!

“The Complete Idiot’s Guide” & “For Dummies” Smack Down

009R
I am crazy behind in posting this review.  Like, embarrassingly behind…  However, I stick to my commitments, and while I should have posted this a long time ago, I’m posting it now because I said I’d review these items.

***********

I was sent a copy of two books:  The Complete Idiot’s Guide® to Facebook® {TCIG} and Facebook® for Dummies® {FFD}.  I was asked to give an impartial head-to-head comparison of the two books.

I’ve never read a book from either series, so I thought this would be really interesting.  Right out of the box, I already had a few opinions…

Looks Matter

Size

TCIG is a much more manageable size than FFD.  It’s lighter and smaller, and I prefer that.  It’s likely that someone would be carrying this book in a laptop bag or something similar, and smaller and lighter is better.

Cover Art

This may not be important to some, but I noticed it and wanted to include it in my comparison.  I prefer the cover of TCIG to that of FFD.  I’m not a fan of yellow and black together period {except on bees}, and on the cover of a book it’s just too harsh to me.

The FFD book also seemed jumbled and cluttered.  Personally, I don’t need to see, on the cover, what I’ll be learning.  I can look in the table of contents for that.

Font

I prefer the font spacing in TCIG.  It makes it a bit easier on the eyes while reading.

Extras

I prefer the extras in TCIG to those in FFD.  The icons are more pleasing to the eye and the content seems to cover a wider spectrum, while still giving detailed and pertinent information.

Content is King

Table of Contents

Hands down the award goes to TCIG.  Not only does the table of contents show you exactly what you’ll be learning {in great detail-allowing you to pick and choose your topic if you’d like}, it’s layout is much nicer.

Visual Aids

Both books include a variety of visual aids, but I think TCIG uses them more effectively.  The standout?  The little lines/captions that really break down a photo in TCIG; no wondering what that button over there does…

Walkthroughs

Again, TCIG wins this one hands down.  I was completely amazed at the detail with which they give instructions.  I chose to look at the chapter on uploading pictures in each book.  While they both went over how to upload photos, TCIG broke it down into every tiny little step.

For someone who knows this stuff, it’s not earth-shattering.  But, for someone who is afraid any little touch will break everything, this is priceless.  It leaves nothing to question.  Excellent!

Material Covered

TCIG seems to cover quite a bit more than FFD.  While the latter gives a good overview of what you need to know to get started using Facebook, the former goes into all sorts of detail; I even learned a few things!

The Verdict

While I personally think TCIG comes out on top, FFD is not a bad book by any means.  I am glad I was exposed to the TCIG line of books, though.  I look forward to looking into those if I ever have questions that they have covered before.

True Confessions:  I was provided with a copy of both books and asked to do a side-by-side comparison.  Having never read either series before, I had no loyalty one way or the other.  These were my honest opinions about the two books.

Day 1 Revisited

So today was my first “official” day doing the Blissdom 30 Day Slim Down Challenge.  And, I use the term “doing” loosely…

The Exercise

I’m not gonna lie:  I was about 60% “Crap, I have to do this now because other people know…” and 40% “I’m excited to get my energy and my body back!!!!”  I’m not a fan of exercise, at least not weight lifting, hard core, it’s my life exercise.  So, I was kind of scared…

I kicked it off by doing what I love to do to get a bit of movement going and get my heart rate up:  Just Dance 3 with Babydoll!  OK, I don’t do it as often as I’d like, but I think dancing with the Wii is one of my favorite things to do.

Then I set out to do Day 1’s videos.  I’ll admit, a few minutes into “Interval Boot Camp”, I wasn’t likin’ Suzanne too much…  And, I couldn’t do the entire rotation of each exercise.  I felt like a loser.

Then, I remembered, every journey begins with a single step.  Done to death?  Sure, but it made me realize that even if I could only do a small portion of the exercises right now, at least I was doing something.  I’m not in the shape that Suzanne is in, so it stands to reason that I can’t do everything.

I tried to keep moving, though, and tried to push myself a little farther each time.  My muscles did shake, and I do feel phenomenal right now.  I forgot how good that feeling is.  How happy you feel.

I’d also like to start walking the dog.  Like more than to the end of the court and back.  I’m not so committed that I’m going to walk him rain or shine {he’s really hairy, and he’ll get matted, and I’m just not going there-plus I don’t like the rain}, but I’d like to take him on longer walks.  It’ll be good for both of us.

The Food

It’s grocery store time, so I didn’t eat so hot today.  Plus I’m PMSing.  We did head to Walmart for a couple of things, though, and I bought some Skinny Cow ice cream items instead of my usual Ben & Jerry’s and Symphony bar.

I don’t do the whole “it tastes just like ice cream but it’s fruit and cocoa” thing, but I will do Skinny Cow.  Love that stuff.  I also plan to include more vegetables, fruit, and whole foods into our meals.

Day 2 should be interesting…

Day 1

Ha, there was no day 1!  I had every intention of starting today, but I was just too busy.  I’ve been at the computer all day working and doing school with Babydoll.

I did briefly log in to Suzanne’s site and take a look at the Day 1 videos.  Um, I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to do these.  At least not completely.  I can’t do a stinking push-up…

But, I’m still excited and looking forward to this.  Even if I can’t do every exercise for as long as I should at first, I will work up to it.

I’m actually more excited about physically feeling better than losing weight.  Sure, that’s awesome, but I miss what I felt like when I did exercise.

And, I believe I’ll need that energy at Blissdom…
